Gascony is the country of d‘Artagnan, the fourth musketeer from the famous books by Alexandre Dumas. D’Artagnan’s real name was Charles Debats. He was born in the nearby village of Lupiac, but his mother was from Montesquiou...
Montesquiou means ‘Mont sauvage’ (‘wild hill’). The old town gate and ramparts go back to the 13th century. Of the former chateau in the village of Montesquiou only a tower remains. The rest of the building was demolished during the French Revolution in 1789. It is rumoured that many houses in the village are built with stones from the chateau.
In Montesquiou you will find a bakery/small supermarket, a chemist's and a doctor, a post office, a bar/restaurant, a garage and a cybercafé.
